Sebastian Ling and Aled Rees overcame changeable weather conditions to take a dominant class victory as the pair staged a mighty giant killing performance in their Kumho shod Mitsubishi Evo 9 en-route to third overall on last weekends Rallye des routes du Nord in France.
Based in the seaside town of Lille the Rallye des routes du Nord counted as the opening round of the Northern Picardy Regional Rally Championship, and this would be the first time that Ling and Rees had tackled the challenging two-day event.
Whilst Ling might not have competed since a brief shakedown of the car in December this was not apparent as he overcame his lack of local knowledge to take the fight to the locals in their world rally cars.
As well as winning Group N on every single stage, the pair also set a number of top three overall stage times, returning to Lille third overall and almost two minutes ahead of the next competitor.
“This is a brilliant result for both Aled and me,” Ling said. “The car was absolutely fantastic all weekend and our Kumho tyres gave us the confidence in the tricky weather conditions to keep the pace up and take the fight to, and beat, the world rally cars.”
Currently Ling and Rees have no further outings planned but if they can raise the budget then the pair are looking to contest the rest of the championship.
