Revolution Wheels opens account on Pirelli

The Revolution Wheels Rally Team opened its 2009 MSA British Rally Championship teams cup account on the Pirelli International Rally when Rob Swann and Darren Garrod brought home their newly built Subaru Impreza N12 in twelfth position overall.

With Swann's Subaru Impreza N14 away to Barbados, he was debuting a brand new Subaru Impreza N12 that was only completed on the Wednesday evening prior to the rally. Added to this, team-mate Euan Thorburn only picked up his rebuilt Impreza N12 earlier on the same day after the car had been repaired from an off road excursion on the season opening Bulldog Rally.

Thorburn's task was not made any easier when the young Scotsman picked up a puncture one mile into the second stage on Friday night. However, he was able to continue driving, albeit at a slightly slower pace. It was only towards the end of the stage that the tyre began to delaminate and damaged the oil pipes leading to the intercooler. Whilst the oil leak was thought to have been cured, the pipe worked itself loose on Saturday morning and the young Scotsman opted to retire to save the engine.

Once Thorburn had retired, Swann understood that he needed to bring his car to the finish in order to ensure that the team picked up as many points as possible. Whilst it took some time for Swann, who finished eighth here in 2008, to adapt to the new car, and setup changes were made at every service, he was impressed with how reliable the car was straight out of the box, a true testimony to the efforts that Geoff Jones Motorsport had gone to in building the Impreza.

“It was always going to be a big ask to bring two freshly built cars to the finish,” team boss Warren McKiernan said. “But for the oil pipe coming loose on Euan's car that could have been possible. We now look forward to the tarmac rallies. Rob is away to contest Rally Barbados and we wish him good luck there. And it is with pleasure that Geoff Jones switches rolls from technical co-ordinator to driver for the forthcoming Jim Clark International Rally.”
