MSA British Rally Academy member Dave Weston Junior scored his second top six result in as many rallies on the Pirelli International Rally as the young Aberdeen based driver survived the infamous Kielder forests complex in his newly liveried Subaru Impreza N14.
With Dave Robson calling the notes, Weston Junior was looking forward to the second round of his 2009 MSA British Rally Championship campaign and ended the opening pair of stages, run on Friday night, well inside the top ten.
Some setup changes were made to his Impreza and Weston was able to increase his pace throughout the morning, but was still complaining about the car stepping out under braking. A new set-up map at lunchtime saw the car's handling transformed and by the end of the day he had climbed to sixth overall, and third in class.
“On the Bulldog Rally we were just under three seconds a mile off the eventual winner and this weekend we've brought that down to just less than 1.5 seconds a mile off the pace,” he said, “so for this I'm really pleased. I was a lot happier with the car in the afternoon, after we changed the diff map and I'm more comfortable on the recces now as well.
“I'm now really looking forward to the tarmac rallies. I've never rallied on tar before so it will be a massive learning curve for me. But it should be fun!”
