Jones takes top ten on BTRDA return

Stone based Neville Jones made a strong return to the BTRDA Rally Series when he brought his Vulcan Fasteners backed Subaru Impreza N12 to the finish of last weekends Somerset Stages inside the top ten of the highly competitive production class.

Jones, with Ian Capewell rejoining him in the Geoff Jones Motorsport run Subaru, was returning to organisers route notes after a recent foray into the British Rally Championship where competitors are allowed to write their own 'pace notes'. This meant that it took Neville and Ian a couple of stages in the morning to re-adjust and at the mid day service Neville was lying 25th overall and confident that he could improve over the following five tests.

An increase in pace in the afternoon, despite the weather alternating between rain, hail and bright sunshine, saw the pair return to Minehead inside the top twenty overall and ninth in Group N and more than happy with how the day had gone.

“Faultless really,” he said. “The car was, as usual, perfect and ran like clockwork. I had a bit of a slow start as I readapted to organisers notes but I learnt a lot on the recent Bulldog Rally, thanks to having Craig Parry with me, and we put those lessons to use this afternoon.

“I really enjoyed the craic today, perhaps the British Rally Championship is a little bit too serious for a competitor like myself who just wants to have a bit of banter and fun and now am looking forward to the Plains Rally, which is back in Wales, my homeland!”

Neville will next be in action on the Welshpool based Plains Rally on the 16th May. For this event he will be joined by his brother in law Julian in the Vulcan Fasteners backed Subaru. Julian traditionally only co-drivers for Neville on the Red Kite Stages but the pair fancied a mid season get together this year.
