Keith Cronin has been selected again by Motorsport Ireland, the governing body of motorsport in Ireland, as its candidate for the Pirelli Star Driver Competition, which will give a number of young rally drivers the opportunity of competing in a series of six WRC events in 2010.
Cronin, who is contesting the MSA British Rally Championship this year in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9, has done great so far and he currently leads the way, having won the first two rounds.
“I am delighted to be representing my country again,” said the 2007 Billy Coleman Award winner, who was also nominated by Motorsport Ireland for the Pirelli Star Driver Competition in 2008.
“It is a fantastic opportunity that could ultimately result in a paid drive in the World Rally Championship.”
Alex Sinclair, chief executive of Motorsport Ireland, meanwhile is hopeful the 22-year-old can do the business this time, beginning at the end of next month with the 'Pirelli Shoot-out for Northern Europe'.
“Last year, Keith came very close to winning one of the drives on offer,” Sinclair added, “and with the experience gained since then and his outstanding performances in the British Rally Championship, we are expecting great things from him this time around.”
