Pugh: WRC-BRC Cycle diary: day 2

It's not all about the boys on the bikes. To go that far in a pack you need top notch back up, which this time around is coming in the form of world class co-driver Phil Pugh.

Here, Phil reflects on day 2 of the WRC-BRC charity Cycle from Holyhead to Cardiff to raise money for Spinal Injuries Research and the Wales Air Ambulance.

Sadly I'm not on a bicycle - but I'm in a motorhome! I'm aiming to provide a smiling familiar face at certain intervals along the route where I can provide food and drink to the lads to keep them going. So I've been trying to cook, and meeting up with them every ten miles or so to try to boost morale. I've seen them three or four times today and they've all been smiling every time and laughing all the way.

It's been 45 hard miles today. They've gone from Porthmadog to Machynlleth via Trawsfynydd, Dolgellau, Aberllefenni and Corris, and they are all doing really well. After their first day their legs seem to be holding up quite well, but a few of them have sore shoulders, I think it must be from leaning over the handlebars all day.

We're at a motor club quiz night tonight, and we have to thank Harlech and Bala District Motor Clubs for the amazing night we had last night. Our auction raised over £5,000 and the thought of that has gone a long way to easing some aching muscles today. It's worth it all to raise that amount of money for the charities.

Tomorrow is an early start for everyone, but that's a good thing because it starts with a six mile gradual climb towards Hafren and it will be a bit cooler to cycle earlier in the day. The route gets flatter after that, but it's still another day of challenges for people who are more used to horse power than peddle power!

I would love to be on a bicycle taking part, but the back injury I got last year isn't quite up to scratch enough for me to join in this year. Next year I'll definitely be on a bike joining in and getting my own aching muscles!

Thanks to everyone who has supported us along the route and sponsored us online. Our online fundraising continues to grow, but please add a donation to it if you can. To sponsor us visit www.justgiving.com/wrc-brc/
