Not all good ideas start with: "Why don't we cycle across Wales?" But the WRC-BRC cycle idea to raise money for charity by cycling from Holyhead to Cardiff did - and Mark Lewis was one of the organisers who planted the gem for the event, which has raised a fortune for Spinal Injuries Research and the Wales Air Ambulance this week. Here's what he had to say at the finish line today...

We've all reached the end, had a blast and we're settled in a tavern with a well deserved drink already! It's been such an emotional journey for us all, it's been an easier trip for some than others, but we've worked as a team and we've bonded as friends for life.

Today was quite relaxing compared to some of the days we've had this week - only 20 miles today, from Bargoed Country Park to the Millennium Centre in Cardiff, via Radyr and Llandaf. When we got to the end our families and friends were there cheering us back and it was magic, very emotional.

We had a representative from the Wales Air Ambulance and one of the presenters of the Welsh WRC programme Ralio cycling with us today. Martin from Ralio had a camera on his bike and was filming all the way - that should make for interesting footage!

It's been a week of hard work and quite a bit of pain, but it's been great fun. Quite a few of us only see each other briefly on rallies and we're always too busy to really get to talk, so we've had a good catch up this week and we're really pleased with how much support we have had and how much money we have been able to raise for the charities.

Now we're already full of plans for a 2010 event. We will definitely do this again, and we have lots of ideas of how to make it even better now we've done it once. When we first spoke about the idea of the cycle, we never dreamed it would result in such a successful week. We cannot thank everyone who has supported us enough.

Sadly Mark Higgins was unable to stay with us all week because he had commitments at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, but he has been ringing us constantly to check we're all doing well, and he has raised even more money for us by promoting us since he left. It's fantastic.

Some of the boys will meet up again next week when Mark [Higgins], Gwyndaf [Evans] and Huw [Lewis] head to Rally Isle of Man. Hopefully this week will have helped them on the way to a successful rally - we've given them a lot of exercise, so they should certainly be fitter and have lost some weight for the rally too!

Our fundraising will go on for some time to come. We've got plans for an online auction which we will announce details for as soon as we can via And our online sponsorship site will also keep going, so you can still sponsor us at:

For one final time I would like to thank everyone, on behalf of the group, for the sponsorship and support you have given us all this week. The amount of money we have raised made the hundreds of miles we have cycled much easier for us all. Thank you to too, for letting us keep everyone up to date on our travels this week via our daily blog.

Hopefully some of you will be able to join us for part of our 2010 route, we will keep you up to date with our plans as soon as we confirm a route, so get on your exercise bikes and get training!
