Revolution Wheels Team driver Euan Thorburn impressed mightily with a mature drive to fifth overall, fourth in BRC and first in class on last weekends Isle of Man International Rally, the fourth round of the 2009 MSA British Rally Championship.
Thorburn, co driven by fellow Scotsman Campbell Roy in his TEG Sport built Subaru Impreza N12, was competing on the event for the very first time and with only one day to recce the roads, as well as changeable weather conditions, young Thorburn posted a string of strong times throughout the difficult two day rally.
A puncture on the second stage of the event cost him dearly but apart from that Thorburn, who won the Pirelli star driver nomination for the previous rally, was faultless all weekend.
Warren McKiernan, team principal for Revolution Wheels, was very pleased with the result.
“To come to the island for the first time and produce this kind of performance shows what a star of the future Euan is!” he said. “This year's Isle of Man International Rally was one of the toughest for a long time, so to take a class win is fantastic. And of course Euan has also brought us some more very useful team points.”
With two rounds of the 2009 MSA British Rally championship left to run Thorburn's points for finishing fourth amongst the registered drivers has moved the Aberdeen based driver up into the top ten in the MSA British Rally Championship.
The next round is the Ulster Rally, which takes place on the weekend of 21–22 August.
