The crew of rally stars who took part in the WRC-BRC cycle last month would like to publicly thank everyone who supported them on their event, and to announce plans to raise yet more money in the next few weeks.

Driving along L?n Las Cymru, the old Drovers roads of Wales, the crew cycled from Holyhead to Cardiff. Among their number for the five-day event were three-time British champion Mark Higgins, former British champion Gwyndaf Evans, and his co-driver Huw Lewis.

The aim of the event was to raise money for Spinal Research and the Wales Air Ambulance, and organiser Mark Lewis says the amount raised so far has already gone beyond anything he could have imagined.

"When we came up with the idea of the cycle, we only dreamed of raising this much money," said Lewis. "Online we've raised over ?3,700 which is fantastic, but we've actually raised a lot more on top of that through the fantastic work of Welsh car clubs who organised events for us on our route, and through people sponsoring us directly rather than online.

"We will definitely be attempting another cycle in 2010, and we would love it if more people can join us for that one. We will announce details of it as soon as we can on our website and on"

Donations are still coming in through the team's Just Giving website, which is found at and will be accepted for the 2009 event until next month, after which monies raised will officially be donated to the two charities. The event was kindly sponsored by Greenergy, and given a helping hand by Pirelli who donated ?1,000.

The week of extreme uphill cycling took place just before the recce for Rally Isle of Man, which Higgins, Evans and Lewis all contested.

Higgins said: "We all went on to win our events, myself in the International event and Gwyndaf and Huw in the Historics, so the week of exercise obviously did us all good! It was a fantastic experience to cycle together for so long, and for us all to have a week off work ahead of a busy rally. We all had a lot of laughs despite the odd person falling off or getting flat tyres. Thanks to everyone who donated money. It's much appreciated by us all."

To have your donation included in the final total for the 2009 cycle, please donate at the Just Giving address mentioned above and keep watching the website where the team will be announcing details of an exclusive auction soon.
