Dave Weston Junior has finished his first year in the British Rally Championship an impressive fourth overall in the points.
Throughout the year he has made it his only goal to use the 2009 season as a learning year in terms of writing his own pacenotes and perfecting his craft on the stages, but his ability to keep cool head and his keen desire to expand his rallying knowledge has led to him finishing the year in a points position above many drivers who have much more experience of the BRC.
The final round of the championship was International Rally Yorkshire, which Junior finished fifth in on Saturday.
"Our rally was pretty trouble free apart from a spin in stage two, and a slight problem with one of our wheels with two stages to go," he said. "All we really did to the car was make some changes to stiffen it up in the first remote service and that was it. It's been a great year with a great team and a fantastic car, and to finish fourth in the points is the icing on the cake really."
However, the event was also disappointing for Junior as he received some bad news on his way to Yorkshire for the event recce.
"My co-driver Ieuan Thomas and I were supposed to go straight from Yorkshire to the airport to contest Rally Spain," said Junior. "But we got word that one of our sponsors had pulled out so we will not be going now. It's extremely disappointing, not just for me, but for the entire team who had been looking forward to the event, and for Ramsport who had gone to the trouble of putting a great deal together for me to go to Spain."
Despite the disappointment, Junior will still travel to Spain later this week to attend the rally to gain experience of a foreign event, and to look at the stages being used, which he hopes to drive over once the cars have passed.
With the British Rally Championship now complete, Junior's next outing will be on Britain's round of the World Rally Championship, Rally of Great Britain on 22-25 October.
