Teenage rally sensation Dave Weston Junior will make his Production World Rally Championship (PWRC) debut on the 2009 edition of Rally GB later this month, behind the wheel of the Subaru Impreza N14 he has campaigned in this year's British Rally Championship (BRC).
Along with his co-driver for the event, Welshman Ieuan Thomas, Weston has a PWRC entry with the LMT/Vergina Inforally Team for the World Rally Championship (WRC) finale in Wales – and he is clearly revved up for the challenge that lies ahead.
“After finishing fourth in this year's BRC, doing Rally of Great Britain as a PWRC driver is the icing on the cake,” he enthused. “Taking a PWRC place gives me a higher seeding than I would have had as a privateer, and it will be a great chance for me to compare my times with the other PWRC drivers on the event.”
Astonishingly, this will be the 19-year-old's third outing on Rally GB. He first contested the event only months after beginning rallying in 2007, and followed that up last year with a second appearance in his father's Ford Focus WRC. On both occasions he achieved a successful finish.
“Since last year's Rally of Great Britain, I've spent a year in the BRC honing my skills both on the stages and making pace notes on recces,” explained 'Junior'. “I continued that last month when we were unable to contest Rally Spain at the last minute due to a sponsor pulling out, but I went out to drive over the stages and make notes after the event anyway.
“I am hoping that this extra experience will really show on my home WRC event – a great chance to show the world exactly what I am capable of.”
Rally GB 2009 begins this Thursday in Cardiff.
