Former motor cross exponent Tom Watson is fired up and ready to begin his first full season in the high octane world of rallying when the Swansea based rally driver tackles the forthcoming Malcolm Wilson Rally in Cockermouth.
Fresh from a successful pre season test when he contested the recent Wyedean Forest Rally, young Watson and co-driver Paul Morris will now take their TRT Welding Services backed Ford Fiesta ST north to the Lake District for the opening round of the 2010 Fiesta Sporting Trophy.
The Malcolm Wilson Rally is based at the home of M-Sport, the rally team responsible for bringing Ford success in the World Rally Championship in recent years. And with the ultra competitive Fiesta Sporting Trophy attracting a large number of competitors from around the globe the 2010 season looks set for some epic battles at each of the seven rounds.
“I am really buzzing with excitement at the thought of contesting the Malcolm Wilson Rally,” he said. “It is hard to have any expectations at the beginning of a new season but I have been working really hard with Nicky Grist on refining my notes and my pre-event preparation. I am just aiming for a clean rally with minimal dramas and we'll see what our times are like at the finish ramp.”
The Malcolm Wilson Rally is based in the town of Cockermouth and features a selection of stages in the surrounding forests of Greystokes, Grizedale, Comb and Hobcarton. The first car departs the ceremonial start at 9am and is due back at the champagne finish at around 3:30pm on Saturday afternoon.
