Matti Rantanen is to return to the British Rally Championship for a second season in 2010 after confirming he enter a new Renault Twingo R2 into the series this year.

The young Finn made his BRC debut last year and also took an impressive fifth place on his home round of the WRC at the wheel of a Ford Focus WRC.

"British rally events are longer and also more demanding than Finnish rally events where we are driving flat out nearly all the time," Rantanen said. "I still want to develop as a rally driver and this opportunity services well for my cause.

"My background team closely reviewed the possibilities for rallying in several rally championship series. However Renault Sport showed great interest in us and therefore we decided to have a second year in the British Rally Championship with them."

The late arrival of Rantanen's new Twingo R2 means he won't have chance to test ahead of the season-opener next weekend but the Finn said he was confident of a strong campaign.

"Just two weeks ago the cars arrived in Britain," he said. "The Autosport Technology team has been very busy on building the cars for rally usage. However they have assured us that the cars will be ready when the rally starts.

"Due to the lack of time, we cannot have a full test session before the first round. However right after the rally we'll do big tests for the next round. My goal is to show my talent and of course win events."
