Welsh National Rally Championship leader and BTRDA frontrunner Damian Cole will this weekend be co-driven by 18 year old rally ace Ella Flynn in the Harry Flatters Rally at Epynt.

Despite her young age, Flynn has had nearly two years of intense rallying experience; she competed in her first event on her 16th birthday, has co-driven for Production World Rally Champion, Martin Rowe, and won the 205 Challenge with Kris Hall last season.

Ella is currently leading the BMW Challenge alongside her regular partner Toni Carannante.

In the same week as she turns 18, Flynn faces a new challenge as she competes in a World Rally Car for the first time, the Get Connected! Hyundai Accent WRC.

"A few weeks ago Damian invited me to test the car with him at the Phil Price Rally School," explains Flynn. "I must have impressed him because afterwards he asked me to co-drive for him at the Harry Flatters Rally. This will be the fastest car I've ever competed in and also my first rally at Epynt so it's a real mix of excitement and nerves."

Cole, who is enjoying a highly successful season on gravel, needing two more wins from the three remaining BTRDA / Welsh Rally Championship rounds to take both titles, is optimistic of a good result this weekend as he swaps cars for tarmac.

"Ella was very good on our test session, she's certainly a natural and will be an asset to me this weekend. She has a proven track record of success and a very professional attitude, I have no doubt that she will step up to the challenge with ease. We are out for enjoyment this weekend with no championship pressure to worry about; we just need to go one place better than the 2nd overall I achieved last year."

The Harry Flatters Rally takes place from August 2-3, starting from Brecon at 16:45 on Saturday.
