Pritchard to go tactical on Ulster.

by Geoff Mayes

Jason Pritchard is ready to play the tactical game on the Ulster International Rally this weekend, as the Citroen C2R2 Cup pilot heads across to Ireland for the fourth round of the series.

Pritchard, co-driven by George Gwynn in the North Road Garage-backed Citroen C2R2, scored a triumphant victory on the last round, the Rally Isle of Man - and he was more than pleased to be one of the pace setters from the word go.

However the British Rally Elite member realises that Ireland demands a different approach. Indeed with the event counting towards both the British and Irish C2R2 Cups the 20-year-old is more than aware that local knowledge could allow some drivers to set an unrealistic pace, and as such he is prepared to pace himself to ensure that he goes the whole distance.

Even so he does have an advantage over the other British title contenders as he was a front runner on this event when the championship visited Ireland in 2007.

"Ulster can be quite a tricky rally, with the varying weather conditions and the different road characteristics. I expect some of the Irish lads to be very rapid but I need to concentrate on the British Championship and not get sucked into any other battles," he confirmed.

"I know I have a reliable car, thanks to Quicks, and George and I have connected really well, so I'm confident that we can put in a really good showing this coming weekend."

Pritchard meanwhile has been keeping busy since the Manx and he recently contested the Harry Flatters Rally over the Epynt Military Ranges. Even though it was only a 'test' he acquitted himself well and returned home third in class at the end of the two-day event.
