Gwyndaf Evans has vowed to give it his best shot on this weekend's Ulster International Rally, the latest round in the 2008 Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship.
Evans has been invited back by the Mitsubishi Motors UK Rally Team following the squad's decision to 'part company' with 2007 Evo Challenge champion, Phillip Morrow.
The Welshman faces a tough challenge, however, as not only has he not competed since Wales Rally GB last year, but he will also have a new co-driver, with Paul Nagle sat alongside him in his Evo.
"It is always a privilege to drive for a manufacturer, so I was delighted to be asked," the 49-year old said, "I realise that I have a job to do for the team and I will give it my best shot, especially as the Ulster Rally is one of my favourite events.
"However, having not driven competitively since the end of last year, and with a new co-driver next to me, it's going to be no easy task, but I've never been one to shy away from a challenge."
Gwyndaf's own team - GEMsport - will also be in action on the Ulster, with son Elfyn competing in the Ulster National Rally, the penultimate round in the Fiesta Sporting Trophy Ireland series.
Meilyr Evans will also do the event but, as he is no longer able to challenge for the title in the FSTIE, has opted to contest the International event in a bid to claim a place in the BRC's Pirelli Star Driver competition.
"It's going to be an exciting event," continued Evans Sr, who will now have to juggle his role as GEMsport team boss and Mitsubishi #2 driver, "Elfyn will once again be bidding for success in the Fiesta Sporting Trophy Ireland and it's going to be an interesting battle between him and Alastair Fisher, who currently shares the lead of the championship.
"It is going to be a steep learning curve for Meilyr to see how he performs on an event which is much longer than those he has been contesting so far. He has demonstrated he has tremendous pace and it will be good to see how he can translate this into international competition.
"This is a really important weekend and by bidding for success in the Fiesta Sporting Trophy and competing on the international stage with Meilyr we are demonstrating how far the GEMsport team has come in such a relatively short space of time."
