Damian Cole wins Welsh crown.

Damian Cole has taken the 2008 Welsh National Rally Championship title on the back of his result in the Woodpecker Stages Rally.

Cole took seventh overall at the wheel of his Get Connected Hyundai Accent WRC, picking up third place class points, to lift the Welsh crown with two rounds still to run.

The result also allows Cole to keep his second place in the BTRDA standings, but it was the Welsh title success that pleased him most following the weekend.

“I'm delighted to take the Welsh National title for the second year running, but I was disappointed with my performance on Saturday,” he said. “It just didn't come together and being up against the local Ludlow competitors who know the stages so well is always a challenge.

“We were only 51 seconds behind the winner, a result often good enough for second or third overall, but we finished seventh which shows how close it was. We need to maintain our focus and go all out in the final two rallies to take the BTRDA crown and end the season on a high.”

The Woodpecker Stages Rally was won by Shaun Gardener in the Mitsubishi Evo 5.9, followed by the Subaru Impreza of Nigel Griffiths in second and John Perrott's Mitsubishi Evo V third.
