MSA British Rally Academy driver Nick Rowland achieved his first ever top-ten finish on an international event recently, when he brought his Mitsubishi Evo 9 home in ninth place on the Mohe International Rally.

The 19-year-old, who was partnered by Craig Drew, soon settled into the event, the second round in the Chinese Rally Championship, even though it was their first together.

Aided by team-mates David Higgins and Ieuan Thomas, who were both on hand to offer some advice, Rowland was delighted with his performance.

"I was really impressed with Craig the whole week," said Nick, who has an exclusive column on Crash.net. "He is a fantastic co-driver and we hope we can find a way to do some more events together now in China.

"Once again David and Ieuan were also a real help and the whole Wan Yu Rally team were fantastic. Our car never missed a beat."

The rally, which was based in the north of China, contained some extremely fast stages, unlike any seen in Britain and the FX Motor Sports Junior driver believes the experience gained will be a good advantage going into the next round of the inaugural Suzuki Swift Sport Cup.

"The stages on the rally were amazingly fast and at times we were reaching speeds of over 130mph," he added. "There were many long straights followed by fast flowing corners so it was hard to judge braking points and things like that.

"However it was perfect practice for the Trackrod [the penultimate round in the 2008 Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship] which is a similar nature to the Mohe Rally."
