Recently crowned Welsh National Rally champion Damian Cole will this weekend be looking to move one step closer to claiming the BTRDA Gold Star Championship title as he competes for a win at the Plains Rally.

The Hereford-based man, who will be co-driven by Paul Morris in the Get Connected Hyundai Accent WRC, currently lies in second place in the BTRDA Championship, 4 points behind 2007 winner Will Nicholls and 3 points ahead of Hugh Hunter.

"I need a victory at the Plains to give myself every chance of winning the BTRDA," Cole explained. "At the very least I need to beat Will Nicholls and Hugh Hunter.

"But the rest of the field is so close behind that anything less than a win would leave a lot to do in the final round.

"Retaining the Welsh National Rally Championship title for the second year running, has spurred me on to make it a double this year."

The penultimate round of the 2008 BTRDA Series, the Plains Rally, based in Welshpool and organised by the Knutsford and District Motor Club, will take place on Saturday September 20, with over 90 competitors starting the 45 miles of some of the best forest stages in the UK.
