Neville Jones was more than happy with sixth overall and fourth in class on the Bulldog Clubman's Rally last weekend, as he used the event purely as a test ahead of his world rally debut later this year.

Neville, who is contesting both the Welsh National Rally Championship and the BTRDA Rally Series aboard his Vulcan Fasteners backed Subaru Impreza N12, was eager to try out the Pirelli control tyres which he will use on Wales Rally GB in December and the Bulldog Rally features stages very similar to the ones he and co-driver Ian Capewell competed on during the recent Plains Rally.

Whilst Neville admitted to driving well within himself, at a pace he was comfortable with, he was still fifth fastest through the opening stage, Dyfnant.

This strong opening stage set him up for the rest of the day and he ran consistently in the top six for the duration of the rally. Even when conditions worsened in the afternoon, as rain fell the ever cheerful Jones adapted well and ended the day with a big grin on his face.

"I'm finally getting to grips with the car now. This was just a test, in order for me to get used to the Pirelli tyres ahead of Wales Rally GB, and I was happy with how they worked," he stated.

"The day was perfect, no dramas or moments and the car was faultless, as ever, thanks to Geoff Jones Motorsport."

Neville will next be in action on the BTRDA season finale, the Cambrian Rally, which takes place in two weeks time in North Wales. After that all focus turns to his world rallying debut when he tackles the world famous Wales Rally GB for the very first time.
