P9 finish for Jones on Cambrian.

by Geoff Mayes

Neville Jones enjoyed a perfect run on the icy Cambrian Rally in North Wales last weekend and returned to the finish pleased with ninth in the production class, a result which helped the Vulcan Fasteners-supported driver to take second overall in Group N in the Pinelodge Maps National Welsh Championship.

With temperatures only marginally above freezing and patches of snow lining the famous North Wales stages conditions were always going to be tricky but the Stone based driver has found confidence of late and excelled in the circumstances.

A string of top times, including fourteenth fastest overall on both of the second runs through the pair of Clocaenog stages saw the Geoff Jones Motorsport-run Subaru Impreza return to the finish 17th overall and ninth in Group N.

“Another great rally! Once again the car was faultless and I really enjoyed the tricky conditions in some of the best rallying forests in the U.K. Well done to he organisers for a well run rally,” said Neville.

“Now I've got Wales Rally GB to look forward to, and I really cannot wait, as it is something I've always dreamed about.”

With the Cambrian Rally marking the final event of both the Welsh National and BTRDA Rally Championships, Neville ends his most successful year of rallying with second in Group N and sixth overall in the Pinelodge Maps National Welsh Championship and seventh in Group N in the BTRDA Rally Series.

His focus now changes as he prepares to make his debut in the FIA World Rally Championship when he takes to the start of Wales Rally GB in early December.
