Nick Rowland and co-driver Craig Drew will team up again next week when they head back to China to take in what is the final round in the 2008 Intercontinental Rally Challenge.

The MSA British Rally Academy members will be the only British crew on the event as regular team-mates David Higgins and Ieuan Thomas are competing on the Wales Rally GB instead.

Rowland will once again be driving with the Wan Yu Rally Team, using a Group N Mitsubishi Evo 9.

Early reports suggest the stages are extremely fast and the local temperature is around 22 degrees. The gravel based event will be their third outing in China this year.

As well as being the final round of the IRC, the Shaowu rally is also the final rally of the Chinese Rally Championship and Rowland hopes he will finish his time in China with a strong drive.

While the opportunity to drive in China again next year is on the table, it is unclear what the 19 year-olds programme will be in 2009 due to the current economic climate, which is causing major funding problems.

"I'm really happy we have been able to secure a run on the final round of the CRC and IRC. It was very late in the day that I managed to get the funding to do it, so now I'm going to make the most of it," said Nick.

"It's going to be a really tough but it will be a great experience. The stages are very long and extremely fast so it's going to be challenging but I'm out to finish my year on a high after some bad luck this year.

"It's a shame David won't be doing the rally as its always great to have his advice and tuition, but I'm sure the training Craig and I have received from the Academy, particularly the fitness and nutrition elements, will keep us pumped up for the rally there."
