Gwyndaf set for 20th WRGB run.

Gwyndaf Evans will be one of the most experienced drivers in the field on the Wales Rally GB this coming weekend, as his outing on the event will be the 20th time he has done it.

Evans, who launched his own team - GEMsport - at the Autosport International Show at the start of the year, was drafted back in by the 'works' Mitsubishi UK team for the Ulster International Rally in August, when he replaced Phillip Morrow and finished third.

The 1996 British Rally champion then took fourth spot in Yorkshire - despite transmission problems - and is now looking to do his utmost to help Mitsubishi beat Team TQ.com and once again secure the BRC team's title. Mitsubishi currently trails David Higgins' team by just three points - 149 points versus 152.

Speaking in the countdown to rounds six and seven of the Tesco 99 Octane MSA British Rally Championship - Rally GB counts as two separate events for the BRC boys - Gwyndaf conceded that he was glad everything went well for Mitsubishi last week.

Indeed had the appeal against the exclusion of his team-mate and Trackrod winner Guy Wilks not gone Mitsubishi's way, the Cirencester-based squad had made no secret that it wouldn't have made the trip to Wales.

"It would have been such a disappointment for the whole team not to have had the chance to compete in the Rally GB," said Gwyndaf.

"For me now though, it is great to have the opportunity to compete in this event for the 20th time - especially as it's on my home ground.

"It will be a tough event. But rest assured I'll be trying my hardest to provide the best result possible for the team. They deserve it."

Gwyndaf will be co-driven on the Wales Rally GB by Gareth Roberts, who helped his son Elfyn take the honours this year in the Fiesta Sporting Trophy in both the UK and in Ireland.
