Neville Jones enjoyed a strong run on the Red Kite Stages last weekend, bringing his Vulcan fasteners-backed Subaru Impreza N12 home fourth in the Production Class at the end of the wet and slippery event.

Using similar stages to last years Wales Rally GB, the 2009 Red Kite Stages featured a healthy entry of both modern and historic rally cars and with Neville teaming up with his brother in law, Julian Jones, for a 'bit of fun', the pair knew that it would take a while to find the groove.

Neville had not tested the car since completing Wales Rally GB in December, whilst Julian had not co-driven since sitting alongside Neville on this rally twelve months ago.

By first service Neville had shaken the cobwebs off and Julian was getting into the swing of things, the Geoff Jones Motorsport run Subaru on the fringes of the top ten overall at this stage.

The day improved as the promised rain arrived for a short downpour, Neville excelling in the slippery conditions, and with the car running faultlessly all day long Neville only suffered one spin, ironically at the very same hairpin bend in Crychan where he had spun twelve months before.

The pair were more than happy when they returned to Llandovery at the end of the 45 stage mile rally in eighth place overall and fourth in class.

"Today was good fun. It took both Julian and I a couple of stages to get into the swing of things and we had our customary spin in Crychan. A couple of the stages were pretty rough and I would have preferred a bit more rain as I go better in the slippery conditions. But I'm really pleased with our overall result and am now looking forward to a fun rallying season.

Neville is planning on contesting the Bulldog International Rally next, the opening round of the 2009 MSA British Rally Championship, which takes place on Saturday March 28.
