Valencia test increases Ebbesvik options

Norway's Thor-Christian Ebbesvik looks certain to move up from the Spanish F3 series for 2009, having attracted interest from both GP2 and, latterly, World Series by Renault teams after strong testing performances.

The Team West-Tec frontrunner tested for two World Series outfits at Valencia's Circuit Ricardo Tormo last week, after accepting an invitation from Red Devil Team Comtec, and then moving on to Fortec Motorsport for day two.

Immediately at home with the Comtec team, Ebbesvik was straight on the pace, being quickest outright for most of the morning when the track was damp.

As the surface dried, he and the team worked hard to achieve a good balance in the car, but slipped down the order as a result, although he was still the third quickest among those drivers who had never driven a World Series car before the test. He was also quicker than team-mate for the day, rapid British F3 rookie Max Chilton.

Much was therefore expected of day two, but Ebbesvik struggled a little as he found the Fortec car to handle quite differently to the Comtec machine, and thus spent much of his track time adapting to its characteristics.

Nevertheless, the Norwegian again impressed as he posted a best lap just 1.2secs off the fastest time of the day, despite missing out on a quality new tyre run which was stymied by yellow flags which Fortec estimated cost him around six tenths.

"Christian did a good job, and I am sure he would be a frontrunner in the World Series - if that is where he decides to race," manager John Miller commented, "It is an attractive championship with quality teams, so it is definitely well worthy of consideration."

Ebbesvik, however, could find that he has several options on the table, having also shown well as last month's GP2 group test, where he added Arden and FMSI to his off-season list, and will now spend the next few weeks mulling over the interest he has received from both series.

"The Renault World Series car is very good to drive, and I must thank both Red Devil Comtec and Fortec for giving me the opportunity to test," he said, "We have lots of good chances for 2009, but we must make the right decision!"
