da Costa to race in Macau with Carlin
24 October 2013
Antonio Felix da Costa will race with Carlin at the 60th Star River Windsor Arch Macau Grand Prix next month, it has been confirmed.
The Red Bull Junior, who won the race with the British team in 2012, will return once again to the most challenging street circuit in the world in a Volkswagen powered Dallara F312.
Having raced this year in Formula Renault 3.5, da Costa will take part in an F3 Cup race at Snetterton this weekend, in order to be eligible for the Macau event. The Portuguese racer will join fellow Red Bull Junior Carlos Sainz Jnr at the event, who is following the same eligibility procedure.
“I am really happy to be racing in Macau again, particularly with Carlin after our success there last year”, said da Costa. “Obviously the aim is to win again, although in Macau you can see your weekend turned around in an instant! But when the opportunity came up to race there again this year, I couldn't say no.”
Having shown front running pace in FR3.5 this year and assisted Carlin's FR3.5 test programme only this week, da Costa was an obvious choice to fill the sixth car vacated by Daniil Kvyat who will now be unavailable due to commitments at the Austin Grand Prix.
“We are delighted that we have one more chance to race with Antonio," added Trevor Carlin. "He was superb in Macau last year and as a real racer, he jumped at the chance to return this year when the opportunity arose.
“As we always say there are so many factors involved in a race win in Macau and talent and speed isn't always enough; on such a tight street circuit you need an element of luck as well so there's no pressure on Antonio to dominate again. Having said that, he is a massive asset to the team and his experience will be invaluable to our rookies.
"We head to Macau a much stronger team for having him with us.”
