Unable to find a seat in
GP2, despite being touted as a possible contender at BCN Competicion, World Series by Renault champion Alx Danielsson appears set to race in this season's Euroseries 3000 championship.
The Swede, whose career has been up and down despite success along the way, was expected to move up following his WSbR title, has signed with Ernesto Catella's ELK Racing concern, insisting that the decision does not affect his goal of reaching
Formula One.
”This will give me a good workout behind the wheel while still being able to focus on
Formula One," Danielsson maintained, "I'm looking forward to helping ELK win the championship and to obtaining an F1 superlicence in the process."
Catella was naturally delighted to have landed a pilot of Danielsson's calibre, acknowledging that the Euroseries was not of the level of WSbR or
GP2, and in spite of having run drivers of note, such as Giancarlo Fisichella, Alex Zanardi, Jarno Trulli, Tony Kanaan and Enrique Bernoldi in various disciplines over the years.
“I'm enthusiastic that a pilot of the level of Alx has decided to run with my team," the Italian admitted, "I will put my experience at his service, and all the team will work with the maximum professionalism in order to reduce the time between his first race and top step of the podium. I am sure that he will win with me, as I have with others in the past years.”
Danielsson will partner Sebastian Merchan in the ELK line-up.
