Bertrand Baguette finished off his title-winning season in the World Series by Renault in style by completing a double victory at Motorland Aragon, a result that also means his Draco Racing team have been crowned team champions.

The Belgian, who was crowned champion at the Nurburgring, had already won the first race from fourth on the grid, but went one better in the longer feature race by taking victory from fifth.

The Belgian benefitted from a poor start for front row sitter Chris van der Drift and a first lap puncture for Jon Lancaster to move into third early on, before passing Danill Move for second on lap four.

Quickly chasing down leader Fairuz Fauzy, who had held first place from his maiden pole position, the Malaysian handed control of the race to Baguette when he was the first to make his mandatory pit-stop.

Baguette quickly began to launch into a series of quick laps, ensuring that when he made his stop, he'd emerge ahead of the Mofaz Fortec driver. He duly achieved his objective, allowing him to coast to a fifth victory of the season, one that gives him a huge 57 point winning margin over his nearest competitor.

“I can't help but be happy with my weekend,” he said. “I'd like to dedicate this win to my team. International Draco Racing won the Teams title, and they earned it! This team is like a family to me, it won't be easy leaving them. But I have to! Now that I've won the championship, it's a logical step to move to F1. We're putting everything in place for that.”

With the title decided in Baguette's favour already, attention turned to the battle for the runners-up spot, which was promoted as a showdown between Charles Pic, Jaime Alguersuari and James Walker. However, all three drivers struggled over the weekend, the erstwhile second place man Pic failing to score at all.

However, with Alguersuari and Walker unable to capitalise, it was Fauzy – who began the weekend sixth in the standings – who capitalised to grab second in the standings at the crucial moment.

“This race was the perfect end to my season, and I hope that by finishing second in the FR 3.5 Series it will allow me to get closer to my dream of driving in F1.”
