RR » Norton returns to Isle of Man TT

"The TT stood out as the very obvious choice for Norton. The hard edge style is a very genuine and a passionate way to go racing and appeals to Norton far more than the energy drink and lycra clad world of homologated road bike racing" - Stuart Garner, Norton.

MMM I don't get it?? A new Norton?.. with a Spondon frame and a Aprilia engine. A Norton made tank and wheel spindles thats it?? Can the older lot help me are Spondon an old sparring buddy of Norton?? I know the rotary had a Spondon frame but it did have a Norton engine at least. Back in the day were the Manx Nortons Spondon framed?? I guess I need to do some reading up,but i could of made that if I had the money and Spondons phone number. I know I'm going to get an ear bashing but its like Honda making a new bike with a Kawasaki frame and a Suzuki engine.

I can't help thinking they could have put an ally tank on an Aprillia ART and acheived the same or better. This is a strange choice for the Norton company as it has no relevance to their current range. Maybe Norton are contemplating following the Bimota route and marketing a range of bikes with another suppliers engine? There must be an underlying reason for this odd departure from their current philosophy.

Sad that we live in this marketing world nowadays: it doesn't matter where something is built or who built it in fact, as long as you have the all important BRAND on it! What's next? Norton branded SYM scooters anyone?

'the hard edge style appeals to Norton far more than the energy drink and lycra clad world of homologated road bike racing'
I could take this quote seriously if it was a norton,to me the aprilia engine is exactly what Garner is criticising.
