Hutchinson sustains 'fractured' left leg

1 February 2012

Swan Yamaha rider Ian Hutchinson is facing a fresh injury crisis after fracturing the same leg he shattered following a career-threatening accident in 2010.

Hutchinson was taking part in a rehearsal for a mini stunt display on an off-road bike at the Carole Nash MCN Motorcycle Show in London on Wednesday morning when he appeared to twist his left leg.

He was taken to see his specialist in Coventry and on Wednesday night Swan Yamaha team boss Shaun Muir confirmed on his official Twitter account that the Isle of Man TT star had sustained a new fracture, which occurred away from the original breaks he suffered in 2010.

The 32-year-old has already had 16 operations since his leg was badly damaged after he was struck by another rider following a crash in the penultimate round of the British Supersport Championship at Silverstone at the end of the 2010 season.

It is a massive setback for Hutchinson, who wrote his name into the history books at the TT in 2010, when he became the first rider ever to win all five solo races in a week.

Muir said he hoped 'Hutchy' would be out of hospital 'within a day or so'.

Hutchinson only recently had the original cage removed but is now facing another battle to be fit in time for the start of the 2012 season.

He made his racing comeback at Macau in November, finishing on the rostrum in third place against the odds.

The NW200 and Ulster Grand Prix winner has signed a deal to compete in British Superbikes this year in addition to the international road races.
