Karl Harris to make debut at Isle of Man TT

16 March 2012

Three-time British Supersport champion and former top BSB star Karl Harris will make his debut at the Isle of Man TT races in June.

Harris, from Sheffield, will ride a Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade in the Superbike, Superstock and Senior races for the Lancashire-based SMT Racing team, which has been an established outfit in British Superbikes for the past six years.

The 32-year-old is vastly experienced having won the European Superstock Championship in 1999 before spending a year in the World Supersport class.

Harris has also competed on factory machinery for Yamaha, Suzuki and Honda in BSB and won three British Supersport titles between 2001 and 2004.

SMT Honda team owner Robin Croft is a fan of road racing and has worked with Michael Rutter and John McGuinness in the past.

Harris, who recently visited the Isle of Man for a look around the Mountain course, said: “It's properly exciting. I've done a few laps now with 'Milky' [Richard Quayle, TT Rider Liaison Officer] and the place is awesome but you've got to treat it with the respect it deserves.

“I've got a long association with Robin and the boys at SMT so it's great to do this for the first time with a team I know and trust. I've always wanted to do the TT just never had the opportunity so it is really something to look forward to,” he added.

“I've got a lot of work to do looking at on-board DVDs so it's going to be a learning process but it will be fun.”

Team boss Croft added: "I'm a great supporter of the TT races and the event continues to go from strength to strength. We're really looking forward to being part of the meeting and I'm sure that Karl is going to give a good account of himself on the Isle of Man.”
