International road racing heavyweight Guy Martin will make his first road racing appearance of 2012 at the Cookstown 100 National meeting in Northern Ireland later this month.

The Tyco TAS Suzuki rider will commence his preparations for the new season at the popular Irish race on Saturday, April 28.

Martin raced at the Cookstown 100 last year, setting a new lap record in the feature Superbike race of 90.923mph, although he had to settle for third place behind Ulster heroes Ryan Farquhar and Michael Dunlop.

His main goal this year is to achieve an elusive victory at the Isle of Man TT, although Martin will also start as one of the favourites at the North West 200 next month.

Martin recently rode the Tyco Suzuki GSX-R1000 for the first time during a test at Kirkistown in Northern Ireland.

Farquhar remains the man to beat at the event after he won all five races he entered a year ago, including he Open Superbike, Supersport 600 and main Cookstown 100 Superbike race on his KMR Kawasaki machines.

Aussie Cameron Donald, who is competing for the Honda TT Legends team in this weekend's opening round of the World Endurance Championship at the Bol d'Or 24-Hour event in France, is also entered on Wilson Craig's machines along with team-mate William Dunlop.

Two-times Isle of Man TT winner, Michael Dunlop, could also kick-start his 2012 campaign at Cookstown, where he finished as the runner-up to Farquhar in the Superbike races in 2011.

Dunlop will ride under the MD Racing/McAdoo banner on a variety of machines this year, including a Honda Fireblade CBR1000RR, a Kawasaki ZX-10R Superstock machine and a Suzuki GSX-R600.

The Cookstown 100, traditionally the curtain-raiser for the Irish road racing season, is celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2012.
