TT2012: 'Gutted' Cummins praying for injury recovery

3 June 2012

Tyco Suzuki's Conor Cummins hopes to return to action at the Isle of Man TT races this week after being forced out of Saturday's Superbike race.

Cummins pulled out of the race on safety grounds due to a hand injury he suffered in a crash at the North West 200 last month.

The Manx rider suffered two broken bones in his right hand after he was struck by Gary Johnson in the main superbike race.

“I had to withdraw on safety grounds. At the beginning of the week I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to ride at all,” he said.

“I had an operation a week ago and I've been recovering ever since. I've had a great team of people around me, but I've been trying in practice and it just wasn't safe to ride because I don't think it would last six laps.

“I'm just going to give it a rest and look at things on Monday,” added Cummins, who is chasing his first victory at the TT.

“It's one of those things and it's put a bit of a dampener on the TT. But we've got to look at the bigger picture and everyone comes here to win the Senior TT and it's no different for me.

“I'm obviously gutted but it's all about giving the hand time. I've noticed the change in just one day and it has helped the swelling to go down and the bruising is a lot less.”
