TT2012: Dunlop: 'I've no-one to blame but myself'

5 June 2012

Michael Dunlop was blaming no-one but himself after he had to settle for second place behind Isle of Man TT legend John McGuinness in the Superstock race on Monday evening.

Dunlop was languishing in 11th place at Glen Helen on the first of four laps but regrouped and powered through the field on his Kawasaki ZX-10R to deny fellow Northern Ireland rider Ryan Farquhar the runner-up spot on the final lap.

He also set the fastest lap of the race at 129.235mph, but it was too little, too late as he trailed Padgetts Honda rider McGuinness by almost eight seconds at the finish.

“It's not what I wanted but I've nobody to blame but myself,” he said.

“The bike was perfect and everything went well. I really tried on that last lap – I lost the front a couple of times and I got a few two-wheel slides.

“I just want to thank all the time and it's nice to have Gary [Ryan] back again and he's a great asset to the team; hopefully this is the start of something new again.

“All the lads are broke so we might have to get someone to buy us a beer tonight.”

Dunlop was leading the first Supersport race on Monday by 16 seconds after the first pit-stop but was forced out on his Yamaha R6 at Ballig at the beginning of the third lap.
