Lee Johnston's NW200 Supertwin plans shelved

26 February 2013

Northern Ireland rider Lee Johnston's deal to compete in the Supertwin class at the North West 200 and Isle of Man TT is off.

Johnston, who will contest the National Superstock 1000 Championship and international road races with the Rapido Sport Ducati team, was set to join Ryan Farquhar's Vauxhall-backed KMR Kawasaki outfit for the 650cc races at both events.

However, Farquhar told the Belfast News Letter the link-up had been shelved.

β€œIt's not happening now and it's a bit of pressure off to be honest because it's one less bike I have to prepare,” Farquhar said.

β€œI'm flat out as it is building bikes and I'll still have four bikes on the grid in the Supertwin races at the North West, so that's enough to be getting on with.”

Johnston's Rapido Sport Ducati team wanted their rider to focus solely on riding the Panigale 1199R at the international roads meetings.

Last year, Johnston finished on the podium at the North West 200 in the first Superstock race and made his debut at the Isle of Man TT.

He also earned a surprise third place finish in the Supersport class at the Ulster Grand Prix behind William Dunlop and Bruce Anstey on his debut at the Dundrod circuit.
Michael Rutter, Jeremy McWilliams and team regular Jamie Hamilton are set to ride Farquhar's Supertwin machines at the North West 200.
