Cummins in KMR Kawasaki Lightweight TT deal

30 April 2013

Conor Cummins has joined Ryan Farquhar's Vauxhall-backed KMR Kawasaki team for the Lightweight race at this year's Isle of Man TT.

Cummins, the Superbike TT lap record holder, will compete in the Supertwin class for the first time on one of the Northern Ireland team owner's ER6 machines.

KMR Kawasaki holds a strong hand at the TT, with Michael Rutter – third in the inaugural Lightweight race last year won by Farquhar – also challenging for honours along with team regular Jamie Hamilton, last year's leading newcomer on the Mountain course.

Completing the line-up for the Lightweight TT will be another Manx rider, newcomer Gavin Hunt.

Farquhar has now retired from road racing following the death of his uncle, Trevor Ferguson, in a crash at the Manx Grand Prix last year, but has made a huge commitment to continue running his KMR Kawasaki team on the roads.

Irish rider Brian McCormack will join Hamilton in the KMR colours for the Superbike, Supersport and Senior TT races for the remaining solo races.

Farquhar told the Belfast News Letter: “It's a different kind of pressure this year from what I had when I was racing myself, but there's still a lot of pressure involving in running a team and building bikes.

“I was to do the best job that I can for my sponsors and give the riders competitive bikes and you're always worrying about bikes breaking down or something going wrong.

“There's a lot of work involved but once we get the North West 200 and TT over with then hopefully I'll be able to relax a bit.”

Jeremy McWilliams will also ride again for Farquhar in the Supertwin races at the North West 200 after making his roads debut at the event in 2012, finishing as the runner-up behind the KMR Kawasaki team boss.
