NW200: McWilliams: I know I can go faster

15 May 2013

Jeremy McWilliams has a superb opportunity to claim his maiden road racing victory at the Vauxhall International North West 200 this week.

The former Grand Prix rider finished as the runner-up in the Supertwin race behind KMR Kawasaki team boss Ryan Farquhar last year on his roads debut.

McWilliams is back for more and on Tuesday he set the fastest lap to take provisional pole for the Supertwin races, which will be held on Thursday evening and Saturday.

The veteran racer will again ride for Farquhar's KMR team, when his key rivals include team-mates Michael Rutter and young Northern Ireland prospect Jamie Hamilton.

McWilliams' best lap on Tuesday of 104.78mph gave him he top spot by just 0.162s than Rutter and the Ulsterman had a big smile on his face afterwards.

“This was a fun day and I really enjoyed it,” he said.

“I was happy that I could go so fast in the dry because I didn't get any dry runs last year.

"I am still struggling with my braking markers and I overshot Magherabuoy chicane, but today gave me more confidence and I know that I can go faster.”
