TT 2013: Dunlop unstoppable with fourth victory of week

5 June 2013

Honda's Michael Dunlop made it four wins from four starts as the Northern Ireland won a blistering Supersport race at the Isle of Man TT.

Dunlop now has seven wins on the Island to his name after he set a new lap record for the Supersport class at 128.667mph on his final lap to deny Kiwi Bruce Anstey, who led for much of the race.

The 24-year-old equalled Phillip McCallen's 1996 feat of winning four races in a week and is now on course to make history on Friday, when Dunlop competes in two more races and can match Ian Hutchinson's 2010 record of five wins in a week.

Dunlop, who also established a new Supersport race record, could even surpass that total and make it a staggering six victories if he can win the Lightweight and Senior races on Friday, which bring the festival to a close.

Anstey's HM Plant/Padgett's Honda team-mate, John McGuinness, got the better of Milwaukee Yamaha's William Dunlop on the final lap top finish third, with the top six completed by James Hillier and Dean Harrison.

Dunlop said: “I said before I came that I could do 128mph on a Supersport bike if we had to and that's what I did.

“It was a great race, but for whatever reason the wee bike didn't feel great at the start of the race.

“I kept losing the front end everywhere and I must apologise to the fans at the Bungalow because I lost the bike big time on that last lap,” he added.

“It's four in a week and what more can you ask for.”
