In the first free practice there were three crashes, all involving newcomers, of which Stefano Bonetti came off worst, crashing at Turn 17 at the back of the circuit suffering extensive injuries, including fractures to his lower back, ribs, right foot and a broken left thigh bone when he hit the barrier.
