Stephen Thompson to make TT debut in 2010

Another high profile newcomer set to make their debut at the Isle of Man TT in 2010 has been announced.
The ranks of newcomers at the 2010 Isle of Man TT has been boosted with the announcement of another high profile first-time competitor on the Mountain Course.

Stephen Thompson has been unveiled as a member of the expanded thepeoplesbike.com team. The innovative team, which sees hundreds of race fans sponsor the team and have their picture displayed on the race fairing in return, made its own TT debut last year and boss Mark Cubbon has decided to return with a two-rider squad this year.

Alongside Thompson will be California's Mark Miller, the fastest ever American at the TT. Last year he recorded a fastest lap of more than 125mph and took three top 12 finishes. He is expected to break into the top 10 in 2010.

Miller's experience and speed at the TT should perfectly complement his newcomer teammate's abilities. Although this year is Thompson's TT debut, the Crumlin rider already has road racing experience from class-topping results at the North West 200, Macau and Ulster Grand Prix. In the late 1990s, he was one of Northern Ireland's top short circuit 125cc and 250cc racers, before switching to four strokes in 2002. He has also been a regular in the British Superstock Championship.

thepeoplesbike team is building a new Suzuki GSXR1000 Superstock bike so Thompson can compete in the Superbike, Superstock and Senior races at the TT.

Thompson said:

“I have always wanted to compete at the TT, but in previous years I have had commitments to other teams and championships.”

“With the help of the team at the Isle of Man Department of Tourism and Leisure and Mark from thepeoplesbike.com it has all just fallen into place this year.”

Team owner Cubbon added:

“As a team we are all very excited about working with Stephen, he is a very talented and level headed rider.”

“We are looking to build a long term association with Stephen as I am certain that given time and good machinery he has the ability to compete with the very best road racers at future TT events.”
