Andrews savours Honda TT Legends deal

Simon Andrews cannot wait to start the 2012 season after agreeing terms to ride with the Honda TT Legends team this season.
Simon Andrews says he is thrilled to have penned a deal to race with the manufacturer-backed Honda TT Legends team for the key road races, including the Isle of Man TT, in 2012.

Less than a year after making his debut on the island aboard a BMW, Andrews will join 17-time winner and road racing legend John McGuinness in the team to compete on the TT and the North West 200, as well as race in the Endurance World Championship.

Keen to learn from having McGuinness as his team-mate, as well as develop his style of riding by racing at endurance level, Andrews is looking forward to the year ahead.

“I am genuinely excited about the year ahead. To be asked to join the Honda TT Legends team is a real honour and I can't wait for the season to get started. I have done a couple of endurance races – one being the Le Mans 24-hour – so I do know what to expect but I'm sure the full championship will be a real challenge.

“I'm a rider that rides better with miles under my belt, so the endurance side of things will without doubt help with the road racing. To be riding alongside the legend that is John McGuinness at the Isle of Man TT is big business and I'm hoping he'll have one or two pointers for me! There is no better person to learn from.”

Also new to the Honda TT Legends team will be Gary Johnson, who will also assume duties in the Endurance World Championship, as well as race with Honda UK in the National Superstock Championship.

“I've wanted to get involved in endurance racing for years so I'm really excited about riding for the Honda TT Legends,” said Johnson, winner of the second 2011 TT Supersport race. “It is by far the most professional team I have worked with and I'm looking forward to being a part of it. It's a brilliant opportunity to travel to and race at many circuits that I haven't ridden before. I've no doubt that it is going to be a challenge, but it is one that I am more than up for.”

Andrews, who missed much of the 2011 season after a horrific crash at Snetterton left him with serious leg injuries, has also signed a deal to compete in the British Superbike Championship with PR Kawasaki.
