Ian Hutchinson plots comeback at North West 200

'I've really missed the racing and can't wait to the return to the North West' - Ian Hutchinson
Ian Hutchinson has confirmed he will take his place on the grid at the North West 200 next month after overcoming his latest injury setback.

There had been speculation over whether or not Hutchinson would be fit in time to race at the first big international road race of 2012 after he re-broke his left leg while participating at the ExCel London Motorcycle Show in February.

However, Hutchinson - who wrote his name into the history books when he won all five solo races at the TT in 2010 - says he will return to the North West next month after missing the event last season.

“My best North West 200 was back in 2006 but I'm back to win and the team have been working really hard on the bikes,” he said.

“I've been plagued by injury since 2010 but the cage on my leg comes off next week and I'll be back on the bike before the end of the month.

“I've really missed the racing and can't wait to the return to the North West.”

A serious accident at Silverstone in September 2010 threatened to end his career, but 'Hutchy' battled back and finished third in his comeback race at the Macau Grand Prix in November.

A freak incident in February threatened to overshadow his planned full-scale comeback, but it appears as though it's all systems go for the 'Bingley Bullet'.

Hutchinson will ride in the Superbike, Supersport and Superstock classes on Shaun Muir's Swan Yamaha machines.

Team boss Muir said: “Ian is a talented rider who has had bad luck with injuries but he'll be fit for the North West 200 and we have high expectations for him.

“He'll be competing in three classes and on three great bikes and I know he's looking forward to getting back onto the North West circuit.”

NW200 technical director, Mervyn Whyte, added: “Ian is a North West 200 stalwart and we are delighted he will be returning to the event. He's a great competitor and sportsman and I wish him a safe and injury-free 2012.”

In 2006, Hutchinson set the record for the fastest Supersport lap in the history of the North West 200.

On his last appearance in 2010 the 32-year-old took victory in the second Supersport race as he embarked on a remarkable winning streak that included five wins at the Isle of Man TT, becoming the first competitor in history to achieve the feat.
