TT Legends final pre-season test hit by weather

The Honda TT Legends team were faced with difficult conditions as they finalized their preparations for the 2013 Endurance Championship at the Bol d'Or test at Magny Cours in France.

Cold and damp weather, red flags and oil on the track hindered progress on the first day of testing on Wednesday, but there was a slight improvement on Thursday as John McGuinness, Simon Andrews and new EWC recruit Michael Dunlop clocked up the laps on the 2013-spec CBR1000RR Fireblade.

Michael Rutter missed the test as he continues to recover from a broken leg sustained during a crash in testing at Mireval in France earlier this month.

TT hero McGuinness admitted the team had been left 'frustrated' by the weather at Magny Cours after the previous test at Albacete in Spain was also hit by unfavourable conditions.

“We're frustrated with the weather but it's not been too bad,” said McGuinness.

“Wednesday was hit and miss but yesterday was a bit better.

“The boys worked really hard to get through the programme of work and we're heading in the right direction.

“We're all at similar speeds and I think we're ready for action.”

Honda TT Legends race manager, Glen Richards, said all three riders lapped within half a second of each other as the team concentrated on chassis and electronics development.

“Obviously the weather has held us back a bit but we've made some good progress all the same.

“The crew have done a lot of work on the chassis and electronics, and although there were no official times, by our own timing the riders are all within half a second of each other which is a good place to be at this stage,” said Richards.

“We've got a few things to try when we come back here for the race and overall we're happy.”

With the bulk of the fine-tuning work now complete, Andrews is looking forward to the opening round of the EWC as Magny Cours hosts the legendary Bol d'Or 24-hour meeting on April 20/21.

“It's been a good couple days aside from the weather,” he said.

“The guys have really grafted and we've done a lot of set up work over lots of laps.

“We're working on getting faster out laps and just tightening things up ready for the race in April.”
