Easton fifth fastest in Supersport class in NW200 return

'It's just a matter of getting back into the North West 200 circuit groove now, as I know there's a lot, lot more to come' - Stuart Easton
Scottish rider Stuart Easton made a solid comeback at the Vauxhall International North West 200 during the first day of the famous road race, two years after his horror crash at the event.

Easton suffered life-threatening injuries when he crashed during practice in 2011 after running into the rear of his MSS Kawasaki team-mate Gary Mason's machine after it slowed suddenly, but the British Supersport star was back in action at the North West on Tuesday.

The Mar-Train Racing Yamaha rider was fifth fastest in the Supersport class and 13th in the Superbike category during the first practice sessions and Easton was generally happy with his performance.

“Conditions were slightly iffy at the start, but it was the same for everybody, although we qualified well on the Supersport bike and were just a few seconds off the pace,” he said.

“I'm quite happy with that, as I know the bike pretty well now having ridden it in the opening three British Supersport rounds.

“It's just a matter of getting back into the North West 200 circuit groove now, as I know there's a lot, lot more to come,” he added.

“With the Superbike, we have a few things we need to change, but on the whole, competing on a new bike with very few miles, it's not a bad start to be honest.”

Easton's fastest lap in the Supersport class at 110.76mph left him 3.225s down on John McGuinness, who set the provisional pole time on his HM Plant/Padgett's Honda.
