Dunlop on course to equal Ian Hutchinson's TT record

'I'm riding well at the minute, I feel good and the bike is good. Come Friday, we'll see what happens' - Michael Dunlop
Michael Dunlop is on target to equal Ian Hutchinson's 2010 record of five Isle of Man TT wins in a week in tomorrow's blue riband Senior race.

Dunlop has made the world's greatest road race his own this year, already claiming four victories to match fellow Ulsterman Phillip McCallen's 1996 feat.

The Honda rider has won the Superbike and Superstock races and clinched a Supersport double to set himself up for a tilt at history on the Mountain Course tomorrow.

And the manner of his wins has set the Island alight, with Dunlop setting new lap records on his final laps in the Superstock and second Supersport races to secure thrilling last-gasp wins.

He also bagged a new race record for the Superbike TT and lapped in excess of 131mph on his Superstock machine to record perhaps the best lap of the iconic circuit of all time.

His phenomenal speed of 128.67mph in the Supersport class as he took victory from Bruce Anstey on Wednesday is further evidence if any was needed that the Northern Irishman is at the top of his game.

Tomorrow, he starts as the race favourite on his Honda TT Legends machine in the six-lap Senior and the 24-year-old is ready for one final challenge.

Dunlop is certainly ready for the challenge.

“Records are there to be broken,” he said.

“I'm not here to worry about them, I just want to win races and if I'm good enough on the day to win races then good, but if I'm not then that's the way it happens.

“I'm riding well at the minute, I feel good and the bike is good.

“Come Friday, we'll see what happens,” he added.

“I'm happy – in all the races I've done I've broke lap records, I've broke race records and although I've made these four wins in a week hard work, I've enjoyed every minute of it.”

Dunlop's rivals include team-mate and 19-times winner John McGuinness, Bruce Anstey on the HM Plant/Padgett's Honda, Cameron Donald (Wilson Craig Honda), Tyco Suzuki's Guy Martin and Gary Johnson on his private Honda Fireblade.
