Ian Hutchinson, Josh Brookes confirmed for NW200

'It is a great start for our 2014 event to be able to announce the inclusion of two big stars like Josh and Ian' - Mervyn Whyte
Milwaukee Yamaha stars Ian Hutchinson and Josh Brookes will compete at next year's Vauxhall International North West 200 after the event organisers opted to continue running under FIM rules.

Team boss Shaun Muir has warned he will withdraw from the Isle of Man TT following rule changes in line with the British Superbike Championship, which prevent the use of after-market electronic systems such as the Magneti Marelli unit used on the Milwaukee Yamaha road racing machines.

TT competitors can run a spec-Motec ECU or kit electronics, but Muir believes his riders would face a big disadvantage with Yamaha's kit electronics system considerably less advanced than those of rivals manufacturers such as Honda.

There will be no such problems at the North West 200 or Ulster Grand Prix in Northern Ireland however and both Hutchinson – a winner on his latest racing return at the Macau Grand Prix in November – and British Superbike star Brookes have been confirmed for the legendary Irish roads meeting in May.

NW200 Event Director, Mervyn Whyte, said: “It is a great start for our 2014 event to be able to announce the inclusion of two big stars like Josh and Ian,” said Whyte.

“Hutchy proved at Macau that he is back to his best and that he means business and Josh is a class act who could surprise a lot of people. It is really exciting to have both of them back with their new Milwaukee Yamaha team.”

Hutchinson has won twice at the North West 200, achieving his maiden victory in 2006 and adding another Supersport triumph during his record-breaking season in 2010, when the Yorkshireman won five races in a week at the TT.

Brookes ventured onto the roads for the first time this year and finished an excellent seventh in the Superstock class at the North West before going on to establish himself as the fastest ever TT newcomer, lapping at almost 128mph during a sensational debut on the Mountain Course.
