Jamie Hamilton back on Kawasaki machines for 2014

'I really want to win a North West because there are so many local supporters there cheering you on' - Jamie Hamilton
Promising Northern Ireland road racer Jamie Hamilton will again ride Kawasaki machines in 2014 as he aims for a prized victory at the Vauxhall International North West 200.

Hamilton parted company from Ryan Farquhar's KMR Kawasaki team before Christmas in an amicable split as he sought a new challenge.

The 22-year-old – the top newcomer at the Isle of Man TT in 2012 – has yet to tie down a Superbike deal but Hamilton will ride a Kawasaki Supertwin for Stewart Smith plus a Kawasaki ZX-6R this year.

He finished on the rostrum in the Supertwin class at the North West 200 in 2013 and Hamilton now has his heart set on securing a coveted victory in front of his home fans at the high-profile meeting in May.

“I was on the podium in the Supertwins race at the North West last year and I want to win this time out,” said Hamilton, who won the Irish Supersport 600 and Supertwin titles last year.

“I really want to win a North West because there are so many local supporters there cheering you on and it was the first road race I ever entered. It gave me a taste for the roads.”

The former British Superstock 600 champion remains hopeful of obtaining a Superbike ride to bolster his line-up of machinery as he prepares for a busy campaign in the Irish national road races plus the international events, the Southern 100 and the Scarborough meetings.

“I have some offers and there are still plenty of seats out there with nobody sitting on them yet,” he said.

“The big bike will come and the other bikes that I have secured are race winning machines.”

North West 200 Event Director, Mervyn Whyte, said he expected Hamilton to be in contention for a dream victory.

“Jamie Hamilton was voted the MCUI's 'Most Improved Road Racer' in Ireland award this season and it is great news to have a young talent like him on the grid at our event,” he said.

“Jamie has already scored one podium at Portrush and I think there will be more to come.”
