NW200: Magnificent Seeley doubles up

Alastair Seeley bags 12th North West 200 victory with stunning final lap in Superstock race to edge BMW riders Michael Rutter and Michael Dunlop
Alastair Seeley underlined his status as the man they all have to beat at the North West 200 as he completed a magnificent double with a last-gasp victory in the Superstock race.

It was Seeley's 12th victory as he added another win in the Mar-Train Racing colours after his earlier Supersport triumph.

The 34-year-old Ulsterman looked to be comfortable in the lead of the race but Michael Rutter on the Bathams BMW and Michael Dunlop on his MD Racing BMW closed in on the British championship contender in the closing stage to set up a grandstand finish.

On a drama-filled final lap, Dunlop hit the front for the first time in the race but Seeley, so supreme on the technical Coast Road section of the 8.9-mile circuit, forged his way ahead at Black Hill and closed out another victory at the North West to cap a majestic night for the Carrick man in Portrush.

Pole man Dunlop was pushed back to the last place on the rostrum by Rutter on the final lap, while Martin Jessopp on the Riders Motorcycles BMW finished fourth.

Austrian Horst Saiger crossed the line in fifth and set a new lap record in the class on his Kawasaki at 121.214mph, while Simon Andrews completed the top six on the Ice Valley BMW.

John McGuinness sat out the race, most likely to rest his injured wrist.

Conor Cummins was seventh on the RAF Reserves Honda followed by Tyco Suzuki's Guy Martin, while newcomer Peter Hickman was an excellent ninth, one place ahead of William Dunlop (Tyco Suzuki).
