Michael Dunlop tops Superbike times at Southern 100

BMW rider clocks best lap on S1000RR to hit top of leaderboard from Dean Harrison and Guy Martin on opening night of the Southern 100 at Billown on the Isle of Man
Isle of Man TT star Michael Dunlop set the pace on the opening night of practice for the Southern 100.

Dunlop topped the Superbike times on the BMW Motorrad S1000RR at 112.355mph to lead the way at the 4.25-mile Billown circuit from Bradford's Dean Harrison, who lapped at 111.689mph on the RC Express Kawasaki ZX-10R.

Lincolnshire's Guy Martin, who won the blue riband Solo Championship race last year for the second time, was third fastest at 110.809mph on the Tyco Suzuki GSX-R1000.

Manxman Dan Kneen, who has been is superb form at the Irish national road races, was fourth quickest on the Cookstown B.E. Racing Suzuki with a best lap of 109.005mph.

Harrison headed the Supersport times on the Mar-Train Yamaha R6 with a speed of 107.298mph to take the top spot from Martin, who lapped at 106.635mph with Kneen next (105.702mph).

Dunlop was fourth quickest on his MD Racing Honda at 105.477mph ahead of Isle of Man rider Conor Cummins on the Jackson Racing Honda at 105.241mph.

Ivan Lintin led the way in the Supertwin class with a speed of 102.039mph followed by Lightweight TT winner Harrison at 101.298mph.

Final practice and the first races take place on Tuesday evening.
