Ulster GP: Final Superbike race cancelled due to weather

The final Superbike race at the Metzeler Ulster Grand Prix was called off due to heavy rain and high winds, with the second Supersport race also abandoned after a high-speed incident involving four riders
The Metzeler Ulster Grad Prix came to a disappointing end after the organisers cancelled the second Superbike race due to bad weather.

Bruce Anstey had earlier won the main Superbike race after a last-lap battle with Guy Martin.

However, the Kiwi plus Ian Hutchinson, Steve Mercer and Michael Sweeney came off in a high-speed crash at the Deer's Leap section of the Dundrod course on the first lap of the second Supersport race.

Only Sweeney required hospital treatment, but the Irish rider is not believed to have suffered serious injuries.

The second Supersport race was scrapped and the organisers pressed ahead with the Supertwin race, which was won by Lincolnshire rider Ivan Lintin.

However, almost as soon as the race was completed, the heavens opened and torrential rain and high winds lashed the circuit and Clerk of the Course Noel Johnston took the decision to call off the final Superbike race.

In the opening Supersport race, Dean Harrison, Dan Kneen and Scottish rider Keith Amor came off at Ireland's corner, though all three fortunately escaped serious injury. All three were ruled out of the rest of the day's races.

Meanwhile, French rider Pierre Favre remains in a critical condition in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast after coming off during the Dundrod 150 meeting.

English competitor Danny Webb was also hurt in a separate crash on Thursday, sustaining reported fractures.
